Powering the Twins-Edition of the Most Realistic Metaverse Pregnancy Simulation

Enrapture is pleased to present Hands On Mommy  Twins – The Real Animesh Pregnancy Journey with Hands On Care Maternity.

The groundbreaking innovation of Animesh twins, counting as 1 Animesh attachment and, hence, being available to all Second Life Residents regardless of Animesh limitations on the grid, advances our goal of creating the most realistic pregnancy simulations for everyone to enjoy. As stated in an article by Kady Ruth Ashcraft,  virtual pregnancies are  “an opportunity to improve how pregnancy is perceived in our imperfect real world. As we create these fantasy virtual worlds, how we include or exclude pregnant bodies matters.”

Enrapture powers the innovation at Hands On Care Maternity by creating, in conjunction with real-life medical professionals, a totally NEW pregnancy experience in Hands On Mommy Twins.

As with everything Hands On Care Maternity does, the new Hands On Mommy Twins is not limited to just copying Hands On Mommy Single. It is a completely new product that is redefining Second Life pregnancies and that takes into account the additional risks of multiples, without roleplaying tragic scenarios and keeping the goal of a positive pregnancy experience.

Anyone can experience complications during pregnancy — regardless of how many babies they are carrying. However, healthcare providers consider multiple pregnancies higher risk than single pregnancies.

The average duration of multiple pregnancies

Multiple pregnancies carry a higher risk of prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction, and more serious outcomes, as well as elevated risks to the mother including preeclampsia, diabetes, and moree. Genetic tests and ultrasonography are the most important tests for monitoring during pregnancy.

We, at Enrapture, in conjunction with medical professionals and scripters, wanted to create a product that produces some of the  specific complications that can come with a twin pregnancy and we aimed for a positive, but more challenging and rewarding  pregnancy journey.

The real innovation comes in the twin Animesh babies, which are created in such a way that the twins can be worn by all residents of SecondLife, not just the premium members. We were able to introduce unprecedented innovation by ensuring that the 2 Animesh babies count as 1 Animesh object. This took several experiments with the bento skeletons of the babies, allowing them to naturally animate and perform different movements (so that they are not a constant mirror of each other) while counting as one attachment. It is essential for us to be inclusive of all avatars and all subscription classes. So much so, that with our products users can carry Hands On Mommy Twins, while also holding one of Hands On Care Maternity’s Lottie Tottie bento newborns.

With Hands On Mommy Twins, there are more than a dozen of twin-specific Active Roleplay tasks. From additional daily supplements of folic acid and iron to custom-built items like a realistic home blood pressure home kit, nausea bands, cranberry supplements, twin comfort chairs, ice compresses, and more.

The Hands On Mommy health bar is now progressing in a different fashion,  making the active role-play tasks the same in frequency but more impactful on the avatar’s health. Hence, making it harder to stay healthy all the time.

We opted for dichorionic/di-amniotic twins, these have a separate placenta and amniotic sack. Unlike identical monoamniotic twins, they don’t share 100 % of the same DNA, allowing moms to customise the baby’s gender and appearance as they see fit, allowing for more diversity in the babies. That’s right, the twins don’t have to look exactly identical and their appearance can be customised or set simply by inserting the genetics of mom and dad’s avatars.

Again, Enrapture is ahead of the medical curve in virtual-worlds when it comes to giving meaning to immersive simulations as Alexandra Bolshakov, a research assistant at Athan’s Maternal Psychology Lab, said: “You can move your body fat to change your face shape along with your pregnancy, so it’s very detailed and customised.” (In general, the difference in visual detail between Horizon Worlds’ avatars and Second Life’s is like the discrepancy between Yogi and Cocaine Bear.) Your pregnant Second Life avatar will be reminded to take prenatal vitamins, and you can choose your virtual baby’s physical features and select its due date. It is “the most comprehensive kind of pregnancy experience in a video game that I’ve come across,” Bolshakov said.

When Hands On  Mommy was first released two years ago, the Second Life Family Roleplay community was simply curious about it and they quickly learned to love it, becoming the golden standard for realistic virtual parenting and maternity in Second Life and a particularly meaningful product to couples in time of social distancing and with other difficulties. Hands On Care Maternity even heard stories of people deciding to pursue a Medical Career in real-life, because of how much they loved the product.

Yet, releasing Hands On Mommy Twins this Saturday, two years afterward, something felt incredibly different. We saw avatars of customers lining up since midnight, waiting several hours prior to the release of the product. As the vendors became available, they hardly even checked out the DEMO, it was a race of who “bought it first”, and who was the most “loyal customer”. Many even complained about not receiving the release email on time! With hundreds of sales in a few hours, we registered our all-time sales record, beating the initial Hands On Mommy Single release.  We received deeply touching messages from clients who had been waiting ‘years for this day’ and who thanked us for listening to their requests and not giving up. Avatars? strangers… with mostly hidden identities?..perhaps, but real customers who simply  believed in us and wanted us to know it. People say that “The Metaverse is dead?”, we don’t worry about that – this is the way to the kind of “Metaverse” that matters to us.

Often moving both its staff and patients to tears, we are very proud to know that Hands On Mommy Twins will continue to help real-life couples unite and that it has empowered many virtual-world users who can either not conceive in real life or who have undergone traumatic experiences.
